Not brain-fried quite yet, but close!!!

Hi all. Didja think we really did lose it?? We came back. Went to Jamestown and went thru the settlement.

Pocahontas - She just wasn't that soft

It was quite interesting and very entertaining. The things they did and the ways they did them were truly amazing.

Our new kayak

Ocean travel held together by ropes
The museum was good, but the living stuff was much much more interesting. One woman was in this little hut showing how they used the apples that came from England. Since they were all dried up and hard, they used to mix them with water and cook them until they were very soft and soggy. She showed how they cooked them over a fire and on a hot plate. The only thing was it was about 90 degrees outside and she was in a room about 12x10 with about 20 other people in there listening to her. AND she was sitting right in front of a fireplace that was burning hot coals to keep the apples cooking. We were in there about 2 minutes and had to get out. Couldn't believe how she was doing it. We even thought about buying one of those spray bottles with fans on them to take to her so she could cool off. Anyway, it was all quite an experience.
My sister met us at my cousins house and we were able to visit with her for a couple of days. She spent time with Mike's wife talking about quilting. Barb is a big quilter and Suzy likes it too. So they were involved in that too. We spent a couple of evenings at Mike and Barbs for dinner. We were treated to some really wonderful meals. Mike and I had a great visit. It was just like when we were kids. Like we'd not been apart for 45 years! It was really terrific to spend time with him and Barb. Thanks uncle Mikie and Barb for a great visit!!!
We left Williamsburg on the 13th and headed to Prince William Forest National Forrest. We were able to get reservations in a private run campground in the park. It was only $38 a nite as opposed to $89/nite at the Cherry Creek rv park close in to DC. The only problem is the amount of time we are taking on transportation.

was she senior or disabled???

It is only 18 miles to the metro rail but then it's another 45 minutes to the National Mall. There are gazillions of kids on tours everywhere! The first day, we spent all day at Arlington cemetary.

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Special Guard for Tomb

They go on forever

America

That was and is as moving as everyone has always declared. We totally loved it. It is just awesome. And a beautiful place. The eternal flame is still flaming... the unknown soldier is still unknown for the most part. One of them has been identified, but there are a number of remains interred there. We were able to watch the changing of the guard and a couple of ceremonies where groups were laying wreaths. There was a convention for police in Washington, they were there honoring all fallen policement throughout the country, and they were there in full dress uniforms. That was quite impressive too. We went on a tour and learned about all the different people interred in the cemetary there. It was really great to learn about all the different people honored by the history spoken by the tour directors.
When we left Arlington, we headed to the National Mall to see the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. The Mall was pretty impressive in itself.

Arts and Industries Museum
St. Patrick's Catholic Church
Smithsonian Castle
The architecture alone was something to see. The Smithsonian Castle was truly something to see. Well, it got to be so late, we didn't get to see much past the Washington monument because we were worried about leaving Trav alone for so long. By this time it was about 2:30p. So we headed for the metro and headed back to the rig. We hit rush hour and it took us about 45 minutes to get back from the metro, the metro took about 45 minutes to get to our car from the National Mall. So we didn't get back til after 4p. He was more than happy to see us. We were exhausted and didn't really do much but sit and veg for a while.
More to come......
